Went downtown to see Thalia Zedek last night. There were two openers: Chris Brokow and Manta Ray. I liked them both, especially Manta Ray, whose cd I bought. They are Spanish and play sort of experimental rock. Thalia was really excellent and so was her band consisting of a drummer and violinist (she played guitar). Their last song was a sonic freakout.

At the beginning of the night while Brokow was playing, I saw Thalia sitting and watching so I asked for her autograph. She looked sort of incredulous and said "my autograph?" but she gave me one. I felt kind of stupid.

I was also sorry that I was one of maybe five other people watching the show, not including people actually in bands performing that night. During Thalia's set I sat between the Manta Ray guys while two silly girls stood drinking and whooping in front of the stage, and two other people stood in back.

In other music news, Joanna, a friend of Shannon's from St. Kate's, is having a cd release party this weekend for her debut album. She's way cool and I want to buy the cd.
