NY Times article on Fred Wilson, who spoke here in January.

Donald Kuspit gave a lecture here last night based on his latest book,
The End of Art. He proposes that much of contemporary art is actually "post-art", something that has gone beyond the boundaries of what can be considered art. He calls for a return to discipline and craft and holds up some painters such as Lucian Freud and Jenny Saville as "new Old Masters". He seems almost exclusively interested in painting, and his writing has strong foundations in Freudian psychology.

Er, it snowed yesterday morning. Lost night was below freezing, and today it's lovely.
Did I mention we had a student art auction last weekend? It went very well. There was a live auction and a silent auction. Eight percent of the profits go to the students themselves for the work and the rest goes to a scholarship fund for next year, where randomly drawn students get a certain amount of money. At the beginning of this year two first years and two second years each got $600. Based on the amount we made this year, there will be enough for eight scholarships of more than $500 each. (I had to do the accounting afterwards, that's how I know.)
School is almost over. Next Wednesday is the last day.

So the
graduate show opened on Saturday and it was really cool. There's some great work and it was fun to see hundreds of people all together looking at it.

Went to see the Pernice Brothers in Ann Arbor with Mike. They were good, the opening band (The Long Winters I think) was good. It was a pretty small bar. I was telling Mike about the book(let) Joe Pernice wrote that has something to do with the Smiths, and we noticed some Morrissey-like flourishes in his singing style. He was very humble, nearly apologetic (after one song he said "Sorry if that was too loud" and most songs ended with "thanks, we really appreciate that" or "that's very kind of you"). They played a great cover of New Order's "Leave Me Alone".
Yesterday were 1st year reviews and I got a lot of good feedback from the four faculty members that I talked to. Today I erased the big wall drawing that I was working on and I'm going to start a new one.
