Shannon and I watched
Harold and Maude for the first time last week and it's an instant favorite. I found that the library also has the two tapes that contain all six episodes of "Police Squad!"
I've been enthralled with William Gibson's
Pattern Recognition and I'm almost finished with it. Ted lent me
Neuromancer a few years ago and I never got around to reading it, but now I think I will.
There was something else important that I was going to mention, but I forget what it was.

Last night there was a free music/movie night put on by the Walker at Loring Park in Minneapolis. Shannon's friend Anne went with us. The music was provided by
The Original Harmony Ridge Creekdippers, whose members include Mark Olson and Victoria Williams. It was really really great, and I had never seen either of them in person. They weren't completely smooth and flawless, which made it feel more comfortable somehow. I got their autographs but I didn't really say much to them because I didn't have anything to say.
The movie was
Requiem for a Heavyweight and was also great. It was written by Rod Serling and it felt like it, but it was even more poignant than most Twilight Zone episodes.

Last week I worked afternoons at the two Caribous that are within walking distance of my apartment, but this week I've had to work downtown 7am to noon every day. Not so fun. Most people just get regular coffee and there are big lines.
Finally watched
The Great Escape today after having it from the library for a while. I'm at the library now, really happy because they have a tape that has three of the six episodes of "Police Squad".
I also recently read Sarah Vowell's
The Partly Cloudy Patriot which was quite good.

We went to the White Stripes show last night and it was really great. They played for a little more than an hour but it seemed to last quite a while. I don't really know their songs but they played all good ones (Dolly Parton's "Jolene", "Seven Nation Army", "Hotel Yorba"). They really rocked out even if it all sounded very similar after a while. Meg sang one song early on. Jack's speaking voice is quite strange and I wondered if it was put on.
Today we're going to the
Art Car Parade. Happy Independence Day. Celebrate your freedom from oppression.

I got a job at Caribou and have been training this week. It's an all right gig for not having had a real job in a while (if I can count any of them as "real").
Last week I and Shannon and the newly-returned-from-London Anne went to see
Gigantic which reminded me why I love that band so much and opened my eyes to what other people think of them, because I don't really discuss them that much with people. Earlier this week we saw
Winged Migration which is really beautiful.
We might go see the White Stripes tonight. This will be our one concert for the summer because any more would be too expensive, I think.
