Jeez, there was rioting in Columbus because OSU beat Michigan. 107 fires set, 20 cars overturned! And apparently the same thing happened two years ago, but I must not have heard about it...

Well, I finished another print that I'm pretty happy with. The text is embossed on black paper so that it's slightly raised, and you can only read it if the light is at a certain angle. A scanned image would not really convey what this print looks like because it has three transparencies on top of it that are meant to be moved around at leisure.
I also wrote a poem for the lips image. That one's discouraging though... I don't want it to be just another one where it's text printed on paper with a transparency on top. One thing I did differently is that the words are hand written instead of typed. I dunno. I'm going to try mixing up an orangy-pink color and see if the text looks good in that.
Test tomorrow in astronomy, and a(n easy) paper due in business the following Monday. I'll have to work on it over the break, because I really should go work on prints right now.
I was surprised Friday morning that it had snowed several inches. But already it's almost all melted.
Shannon is coming in three days!

On Sunday I completely finished the second print of my (ulp) ten page book. Last week Arturo was saying "You're not going to get this thing finished on time... If you bust your ass you can finish the next six" so I'm determined to prove him wrong and finish the whole thing. So I've got another one started that I think I can finish by Friday. Then I can finish one more and probably start another one before Thanksgiving break. I have to finish that lips print somehow (by writing the poem for it), and there's an intaglio that is almost done, so that would make six. That means I'd have the last four to do in a couple of weeks, plus resolve how to package the whole thing together. And I still have to draw. Not a problem.
This morning I was delivered a book of paper samples that I ordered last week from a place in Indianapolis. A lot of them are really dumb, but some of them will come in handy, so I'm going to order some vellum and other interesting papers. I should have gotten this thing two months ago, but I'm a lazy ass (obviously).

Tonight I saw
Time Flies by David Ives at the school theatre. It consisted of five one-act plays (including "Time Flies"); it was one of the best shows I've seen there. The last couple years were really disappointing, but they've finally got some new actors who are quite talented. It makes me want to try out for another one, but... I probably won't.
Tosha worked on the costumes, which were pretty good. In one of the plays everything was made to look two-dimensional, like lines drawn on white paper.

It snowed a little yesterday and now it's snowing a lot. Seems a bit early, but oh well.
I'm trying to solve my own Case of the Missing Clothes. I've recently remembered several articles of clothing that I had in Italy and before that, and they've vanished. I'd rather not have to buy more clothes. I need the money for art supplies.

A huge anti-war protest in Florence! I'd have liked to be there.

Today we had a group critique of all the BFA students. Six (possibly seven) of us will be in two student shows in the spring, so this was a chance for us and all the studio faculty to see everybody's recent work. I'm really glad that everybody's work is strong - it's going to be a good couple of shows. I got some good feedback on my work too.
Peter (new media professor) asked me about
my drawing with all the little objects and things "Does it still make you giggle?" [Yes, I suppose.] "What's left after the giggle?" I don't think I responded fully enough, and there are always interruptions and interjections, so I didn't say what I thought about later. It's not all shits and giggles, that drawing: there are some serious things in there, some very sad things, even if only I know what they are. It's not that it's not a serious drawing.

My new voting location this year was, like two years ago, about a minute's walk from where I live. I was bummed when they forgot to give me an "I voted" sticker.
I had an informal critique with Barbara today that was rather inspiring. We talked mostly about what I could do with my book of prints, and she lent me some interesting books on paper and packaging. Tonight I made a few cd sleeves out of thick paper, and it was much fun.
