My dad turned 60 today. He's rather shocked, which I think we all are. Over the weekend seven of his nine siblings, and his dad, came to visit (most of them live in Paducah, KY, which is eight hours away, so it's a big deal; usually we go visit them). They're a crowd wherever they go, and it was a lot of fun having them here.

My brother Phil's birthday was Saturday and I got to talk to him that night. He was in Madison with his wife Teresa, on business, sort of, and they hung out with their old friends from there. They've been in Boston for less than a year.

I'm going up to Toledo to look for an apartment. There's one that looks good on paper that I'm hoping I can get. Meanwhile, I'm trying to attempt to prepare to go back to school. But I'm anticipating not having as good a time as I did in Italy, which is reasonable, isn't it? Man, cheer up.

Some neat Phil Ochs photos.

You know what one of the best songs is? "Sweat" by Inner Circle.

I should just mention that this thing is going to be updated only rarely. I really don't have anything to say, and a lot of the things that I might want to say I wouldn't want anyone in the world to know. Actually, I'm thinking of taking it down. We'll see.

And wow! I made $1.12 from mp3.com! Seriously, I'm surprised.

Haven't been doing much of anything lately, just want Shannon to come over sooner than she actually can.

I just finished burning a cd of my songs and now I'm listening to it. Sixty-seven tracks, 69 minutes; goes to show how long these songs are. I just realized though that I made a couple of errors, repeated two tracks and left out two I should have put on. And really all these songs should be considered "demos" since they're relatively low-fi. Still, it's cool to hear the songs on speakers other than my computers, and I can always burn other copies. Anybody want one?

Mark Eitzel played at Little Brother's tonight and I should have gone, but instead I'm sitting wondering what the show would have been like.

And I don't know what the deal is with the freespeech.org plug at the bottom of every page.

Wow, I'm happy. For the past couple months I've been having these problems that were really stressing me out, and now it looks like they'll all be solved rather soon. I just wish I'd solved them earlier.

Some great music been listening to lately:

John Hammond "Jockey Full of Bourbon" (a Tom Waits song)
Golden Smog "Until You Came Along"
The Newcomers "Open Up Your Heart (Let Me In)" and The Dramatics "Your Love Was Strange" from The Complete Stax/Volt Soul Singles Volume 2: 1968-1971 (Disc 4)
They Might Be Giants "Yeah! Yeah!"
a whole bunch by Ron Sexsmith
Lucinda Williams "Blue"
Possum Dixon "Watch the Girl Destroy Me" (haven't heard it in about five years, continuing my search to reconstruct everything I heard on the radio when I was 15-17 years old)

we went to the u.a. parade this morning; it was raining. a typically republican parade, no real humor to be found. i was looking for the george w. bush float but never found one. after lunch at the smiths' next door, i played a lot of video games and my sister kate has been bugging me about wanting to play zak mckracken on the amiga, and i couldn't get an emulator to work on my computer, so i grudgingly hooked up the old amiga and she's playing it as i write this.
