no-arm bandits

Shannon keeps asking for updates (funny, seeing as how we're married and live together and all), so here goes:

On Friday I had an interview for a graphic design job. It entailed being asked a couple of vague questions and demonstrating some ability in InDesign, which I claimed on my resume to have, but in reality it was the first time I'd ever used it. Fortunately, extensive experience in Illustrator and Photoshop saved me, as its interface wasn't too different.

Then I went with Shannon and her camp cohorts up to Minnesota to a casino. (We had to go all that way because most of them weren't 21 yet.) On the way there, I talked to Phil. He and Teresa bought our plane tickets that night, so we are definitely going to Boston in August! Shannon and I are incredibly excited. It might mean not getting/keeping the graphic design job, but it wouldn't really bother me that much if it meant moving me toward finding something outside of Iowa. Anyway, the casino was pretty fun. Shannon and I started with about $24 and ended up with I think $32. One girl started with $5, went up over $100, and ended with about $40. This was all on penny slots. A few guys played poker, but they all lost twenty to thirty bucks. But I think they had fun too. Incidentally, we left home at 8pm, arrived at the casino close to midnight, stayed till 4, and got home at 8am. I'm glad I wasn't driving; our driver home was remarkably wide awake somehow.

Saturday we went shopping for Shannon's two jobs, the camp and the Aurora Comet Center. It was kind of fun having three huge garbage bins in a shopping cart, and the major hit that our debit cards took will be reimbursed eventually. We delivered the goods and then went to a reliably good steakhouse with more camp cohorts.

Next weekend there's a Dallenbach family reunion. Then the following weekend there's a birthday celebration for my dad (who will be 65 that weekend) and my mom (who will be 60 in September). I'm quite looking forward to this since I haven't seen my family since Christmas. Ted and Lorri had me design the invitations, which turned out pretty well.
